Acne treatment is more than just curing pimples and spots. It includes getting rid of blackheads and whiteheads as well. Blackheads are known as open comedones. It is a type of acne vulgaris and is triggered primarily by excess oil. When excess oils are combined with trapped toxins and subsequently exposed to oxidization, blackhead becomes the result. Blackheads can become difficult to remove and ugly if they are left too long and untreated. People with oily skin are most susceptible to having blackheads. Whitehead is yet another type of acne vulgaris. However, unlike blackheads, it is not so obvious. A combination of excess oils and dead skin is the main cause of whiteheads. Most people will try to get rid of blackheads and whiteheads by squeezing with their fingers. This is not advisable because it can lead to scarring and infection. Removing blackheads and whiteheads take time. There are products on the market that are effective in blackheads removal and at the same time, prevent any scarring. Salicylic acid - effective in eliminating bacteria and excess oils on the skin. It is used in many skin care products and is proven to be a good treatment for blackheads. AHA - this is effective in whitehead removal as well as getting rid of dead skin cells. Benzoyl Peroxide - contains antibacterial properties that are effective in treating mild pimples but it can be very drying on the skin. Also, it is not as effective in terms of blackhead removal. Accutane - this is used only if you have very severe cystic acne. If possible, try other methods and keep this as a last resort. Home remedy - whiteheads can be removed by using face steamer infused with essential oils. Also try applying lemon juice on the skin. It helps in reducing excess oils and keep the pores clean. You can combine using pore strips and salicylic acid to remove blackheads and whiteheads. This combination has been very effective in removing these impurities. Keep in mind not to overuse on the pore strips. It is best to use salicylic acid first and wait till the blackheads are "loosen" before applying the strips.
